Cultivated Stones: Chinese Scholars' Rocks from the Kemin Hu Collection
You are invited to view a once-private collection of Chinese scholars’ rocks, generously donated by noted scholars’ rock collector, Kemin Hu. This gift doubles the Museum’s collection of viewing stones, making it the finest collection of documented Chinese scholars’ rocks in the United States. Sizes of the stones range from a few inches to almost 5 feet and include geological stones, fossil, petrified wood, coral, stalactite, root wood, and ceramics. Chinese scholars’ rocks are stones collected in nature, some naturally occurring and others hand carved or otherwise embelli...

Chinese Scholars’ Rocks
Presentation looking at collecting of Scholar's Stones (gongshi)over the ages and how it has evolved. Scholars developed aesthetic principles to appreciate the beauty of stones, for example, for their thinness and narrow base, interesting perforations, and crisp silhouette. As features of gardens and later indoors, they became highly desirable items to collect, and objects to spark conversation or inspiration in poetry and paintings. The talk includes classical and modern examples, and highlights of two important private collections are shown, one in the Boston area and a second near Taipei.

Psammetichus's Law, or the most ancient language in the world the Colchis dragon spoke
"How did the world's first language emerge?" and "Where?" are questions historical linguists usually ignore when they try to provide their reconstructions of proto-languages. But when they try to answer the question "When?" applying it to some hypothetical intermediary proto-language, they willingly use methods and tools from other sciences not initially intended to be used in linguistics, with no verification of the results obtained in such a way. The issues with reconstructing a proto-language start with the system of rules assumed in the comparative method's model. In this video, we will shed more light on why this system is likely to be wrong using, among others, the historical record and provide a fresh and more precise perspective on the languages of Ukraine, the Caucasus, and some r...

In this video, we will shed more light on why this system is likely to be wrong using, among others, the historical record and provide a fresh and more precise perspective on the languages of Ukraine, the Caucasus, and some regions outside, of the ancient and mediaeval period - including Scythian, Cimmerian, Sauromatian, and Hunnic to name a few.
Keywords: Scythian language, Cimmerian language, Sauromatians, Sarmatians, Hunnic language, Khazars, Kyivan Rus, Ukrainian language, Catacomb culture
